2008 Beijing 北京

Finally, a 10 days trip to Beijing during winter time, since I havn’t experience how cold China is for almost 6 years that I moved to Australia. It was -8 degrees when arrived at Beijing international airport, and snowing on the second day. Of course, Beijing isn’t the coldest part of China, it isn’t even cold like it used to be few years ago. Right now the South part of China is having enviromental disasters. From the south of the Yangtze River (长江) to states like HuNan (湖南),HuBei(湖北),JiangSu (江苏),SiChuan(四川) and GuanDong (广东) in particular are having extreme frost weather conditions, reaching a frosty -30 degrees in temperature. Most power supplies were cut off, therefor water is also a problem, most places were out of water and eletric powers for 8 days in a role. Not only the power cables are wraped in 15cms of frosted ice blocks, train tracks were also buried under heavy lumps of snow, which causes trains to delay for days.  Peoeple who is wanting to go to Beijing from GuanDong (广东) for the Chinese new years eve are packed inside the GuanDong (广东) Station. Almost 20,000 people a day waiting to aboard the train, now that it reached over a whopping 600,000 people how isn’t able to returne to visit their families during the new years, many as thousands refund their tickets =_=”
These states i mentioned above don’t usually snow so often, it might be what’s caused by the climate change these years… Lets just hope it dosn’t get any worse than now. :P

What Melbourne looks like from above. The ground is very flat so were the structures, not many tall buildings besides few in the city.

Flight took around 1o-12 hours, not as long as expected.

The sun rise on the next day. This taken on a 30 storey apartment, not my homethough.

The visibility is much better than the past years, where Beijing was horribly polluted by the massive amount of greenhouse gas that’s been released, now that it has decreased by heaps, I can at least take a deep breathe without chocking.

The view from my apartment.

Beijing Radio Tower, where radio channals were broadcasted and recorded.

This happens to be what a chimney looks like behind the China World Tower. Does this remind you of something?

ChangAn Road(长安街) at night. A huge trafic jam, looks more like a car park than a road.

A small trafic jam with cars going all over the place @_@

WangFuJing Street (王府井大街) Lots of book stores, shops, resturants and tuck-shops that has a lot of traditional Chinese snacks.

On the 5th level of SoShow shopping centre, you’d find this “Beijing anime city”.  Most otaku related stuff are gathered here. Too bad this place is small comparing to the stores you find in Japan, but i suppose its good enough…

Inside the Bandai store, prices here are unreasonably high. Wasn’t allow to take pictures in here so I only had the chance to take two pictures before i got kicked out ^^”

  2. w00t nice bro, I can see you enjoyed your trip back to Beijing, China. It’s good to visit every now and then and noticed how fast things change as China continues to advance economically. The pollution I have to admit is bad, least it’s actually getting better. (I love your China World Tower pic, nice find)

  3. Looks like a nice place to visit, but a terrible place to drive in, heh. I’d probably be contemplating suicide for the entire time I’m stuck in that jam. Haven’t been to China for so, so long, and the last time I’ve been there was just to some minor province as well so it’s really interesting to see some major city and read a commentary about it.

When I see the pics of the Bandai store, I just think it’s so sad that even the biggest store over here doesn’t even look like that. The anime stuff scene definitely has more room to grow over here and I really hope it does ^_^ Hope to see more of your adventures in China soon! ;)
